Kane Tanaka, the world’s oldest living person at 118 of age, will be carrying the torch this May in Japan for the Olympics. Tanaka has survived cancer twice and two global pandemics and will now have the honour of passing the flame through Shime. Her family will be pushing her for most of the 100-meters, finally giving the flame to another person aged 110 years for the final few steps.
Tanaka has prepared a new pair of sneakers for the event, gifted to her from her family. Born in 1903 Tanaka is said to love fizzy drinks and playing maths games every day. The first time the Olympics were held in Tokyo in 1964, Tanaka was 61 years old. Tanaka’s great-granddaughter set up a Twitter account to celebrate Tanaka’s amazing achievement along with her very eventful life.
