Association For Abandoned Animals Save Anaemic Dog

Mar 14 2025 Share

The Association for Abandoned Animals (AAA) shared on Facebook that they rescued an abandoned and mistreated dog suffering from severe anaemia.

Describing the dog’s condition, AAA stated that he was a heartbreaking example of pain and neglect.

Upon rescue, the first priority was to take him to a vet for immediate medical attention, where blood tests confirmed that he was both anaemic and positive for Leishmania (sandfly disease).

Given his severe malnutrition, further tests will be conducted to assess whether his kidneys are functioning properly.

Despite his fragile state, the dog has managed to eat for two consecutive days, giving rescuers hope for his recovery. AAA remains committed to his care, ensuring he receives the medical support and nourishment needed to regain his strength.

In their post, AAA condemned the neglect that led to his suffering, highlighting the ongoing issue of irresponsible pet ownership.

They expressed frustration at people who take in animals only to abandon them, emphasising the urgent need for greater awareness and accountability.

More than 300 Indigenous Trees Planted in Aħrax

Mar 14 2025 Share

For the past decade, the GħKNK Mellieħa and GħKNK Miżieb sub-committees have been actively engaged in environmental conservation, planting thousands of indigenous trees to restore natural habitats.

This commitment continued last weekend as GħKNK Mellieħa volunteers planted over 300 indigenous trees in Aħrax, alongside the installation of a new irrigation system.

These efforts followed the removal of invasive alien species like Acacia, helping to create a more suitable environment for native flora to flourish.

Several trees were generously provided by Ambjent Malta, whose collaboration has been invaluable in supporting this initiative.

Beyond enhancing biodiversity, this project ensures that Malta’s open spaces remain thriving, healthy ecosystems for future generations.

The newly planted trees will be carefully maintained by our members, reinforcing our long-term dedication to preserving the island’s natural heritage. Through these ongoing efforts, we continue to safeguard and restore Malta’s precious environment.
