98% of Maltese aged 12 and over have received two COVID-19 vaccine doses

In a recent meeting with EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides, Health Minister Chris Fearne revealed that 98% of people aged 12 and over have received two jabs of the COVID-19 vaccination.

The Minister went on to state how over 75 per cent of Malta’s population has been vaccinated against the virus, highlighting how Malta’s successful vaccination roll out is the reason for the government’s recent lifting of restrictions. Fearne also revealed how 76% of individuals aged 18 and over have received the COVID-19 booster.

The Health Minister stated how Europe must not limit accessibility but rather contribute to the vaccination process of other parts of the world, alluding to Malta’s donation of vaccine jabs to countries in Africa and Asia.

“Could you kill a baby…?” Parents shocked by controversial question on school handout

Parents across Malta have expressed their concern after a photo of a questionable school question began making the rounds on social media. The question presents a ‘moral dilemma’ where the reader would have to imagine if they are left in a room with a baby who they know “will grow up to be a dictator who will kill millions.”

The question asks the student to explain in detail what they would do and why, going on to ask if they would ‘kill a baby even if [they] knew it would save millions’. Rightly so, parents began to question the reasoning behind why such a question would be featured in a school question.

Local political party ‘Partit Popolari’ took to Facebook to notify the general public that such a question was being asked in Maltese school handouts. The post highlighted that “common sense must prevail in the curriculum and the Education Department. Our children’s minds are not experiments!”

During an appearance on Malta Daily’s show ‘The Interview with Fabian Demicoli’, VCA Chairman Jason Micallef revealed that he was the first person to give Keith Schembri a voluntary role within the Labour Party.

“Only a few people know, and I’ve never said this in public that when he asked me, I was the one who gave Keith Schembri his first voluntary position in the Labour Party… when Keith Schembri was still a person who knew no one.” Micallef revealed that this occurred around 2014, when he lead his first election campaign for the Labour Party, when result in a dramatic win.

In his appearance on ‘The Interview with Fabian Demicoli’, Micallef stated that one of the main problems with the Public Broadcasting Service was treated as if it was a private broadcaster, as opposed to a national broadcaster which reflects a society and its culture.

He went on to highlight that a national broadcaster should have its financial books in order as well as programmes of high quality, not the teleshopping and other programmes of this sort. The VCA Chairman also called for a reform in the media and broadcasting sector, shining a light on the fact that certain problems exist as a result of society’s development and if local broadcasters do not adapt, they will die.
