In a statement, Transport Malta explained that yesterday morning’s traffic delays were caused due to several accidents which occurred on the Marsa Ħamrun Bypass between 5am and 10am.
A total of nine collisions to be exact – all on or around the same bypass.
The first incident involved a taxi and a pedestrian and occurred at around 05:00hrs.
Transport Malta promptly coordinated with emergency services, the statement explained. This lead to the closure of one carriageway, leading to more disruptions towards the southbound direction until the road was safe to reopen.
An accident at 0855 involving a pregnant woman and other incidents led to further disruptions, this time even northbound.
‘As part of its efforts to manage traffic in emergency situations, Transport Malta increased Enforcement Officers in affected junctures, such as the Qormi-Mriehel roundabout, as well as used its Traffic Control centre, to restore traffic to normality.’
