86% of school staff vaccinated with first jab

It has been revealed that 86% of all teachers ands school staff have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The government announced in a press conference on Wednesday that schools will be reopening Monday starting with kindergarten and preschools, with other levels of education restarting throughout the week.

The first dose has also been given to 95% of the elderly aged over 80. The vaccine rollout continues to mitigate the spread and has, along with the measures, successfully reduced the number of cases and hospital admissions related to the virus. Malta has administered 227,606 doses of the vaccine so far, of which 63,114 were second doses.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne took to Twitter to announce that the Maltese government plans to create a woodland area in commemoration of all those who have passed away due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The news was announced on the first anniversary of the virus’ first death – a 92-year-old Gozitan woman.

The death hit the 400 mark on Wednesday, adding one more as of 8th April 2021. Details about the project are not yet disclosed except that this is in memory of all those who we have lost to the pandemic and all those who experienced the losses directly.

A video making rounds on social media depicted a party happening behind closed doors with a DJ stand and several teenagers breaking the health authority safety measures. A rumour has surfaced that the party happened at the ClubHouse Europe premises but sources close to the Instagram and TikTok influencers denied the rumour.

Police have however convened on the spot to investigate the claims and find out whether it did actually take place there. Investigations are still ongoing and authorities have been given permission to investigate households as groups indoors are currently limited to two households with a ban on mass events.

A new poll by Piplsay has discovered that nearly half of Americans would want to see Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson take up the mantle of President of the United States of America. At least 46% of the Americans would support The Rock should he run for president. The 48-year-old actor and retired wrestler had already dropped hints at running for 2024 should the people want it to happen.

And it seems as if they actually do. The poll was conducted online among 30, 138 US adults between April 2nd and 4th and found that 63% of Americans believe Hollywood stars could indeed make good politicians should they be supported by the correct staff and have the right attitude. Will Smith was also another favoured candidate, with Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie being the top female choices.
