838kgs Of Waste Cleared From Ta Xbiex Marina

NGO Coast Is Clear, in collaboration with Kunsill Reġjonali Lvant, cleaned up a whopping 838kgs of waste from the Ta Xbiex marina seabed and coastline.

Up to 314kgs of glass bottles, 268kgs of metals and 256kgs of mixed waste were cleared up thanks to the brilliant teamwork between divers and volunteers on land.

Police Officers Awarded For Long Years Of Service

A ceremony was held at the Police Headquarters in Floriana, where Minister for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment Byron Camilleri, alongside Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà, awarded medals for long and efficient service.

The awards recognised 26 current and former members of the Police Force who had served for 18 years. Additionally, 10 members and 4 former members received a clasp for 25 years of service, while 28 members and 2 former members were honoured with a second clasp for 30 years of service.

Minister Camilleri expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and the Maltese people, thanking the officers for their dedicated service. He encouraged serving members to use their experience to guide younger officers in the Force, not only sharing their knowledge but also passing down essential values.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà praised the officers for their dedication, loyalty, and professionalism, emphasising their role in making Malta a safer place.

He acknowledged the officers’ resilience in navigating changes, progress, and challenges within the Police Force, stating that their work has significantly contributed to the safety of the nation.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Deputy and Assistant Commissioners, the Director General of the Police Force, and Permanent Secretary Joyce Cassar.

Prime Minister Robert Abela addressed the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, giving a speech about choosing the path of persistence.

During his speech that he refuses to believe and listen to those who say that the worst possible outcomes are inevitable and that this persistence motivated him to enter public life.

He addressed various issues facing the world today – from wars to climate change amongst others.

Neil Agius Swim Officially Ratified As New World Record

Taking to social media, Maltese Olympic swimmer Neil Agius announced that his record breaking swim has been officially ratified by the World Open Water Swimming Association.

‘Official new World Record for the longest, unassisted, current-neutral ocean swim 142.3 km swim in 60 hours, 35 minutes, and 4 seconds, starting from Mellieha Bay and finishing at Għar Lapsi on September 23, 2024.’

Neil thanked his team for working around the clock to hand all of the necessary documents to ratify it with the WOWSA.

‘We deeply appreciate the team from WOWSA for ratifying the swim in a timely manner and giving the swim so much time and attention as soon you heard of it.’
