Aug 1 2021 Share

A €1 million investment has been issued for 40 sports organisations in order to invest in energy efficient apparatus and systems. Through this initiative by the Energy and Water Agency in collaboration with Sport Malta, 40 clubs managed to work and complete over 60 projects in order to install modern and efficient systems of light, heat pumps, appliances and pumping equipment.

Addressing a press conference in Hibernian’s Basketball Pavilion, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli and Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organisations Clifton Grima celebrated the hard work and all the achievements of the clubs.

Minister Dalli exclaimed how, due to the scheme’s success, a decision was taken to allocate further funds for more projects relating to energy efficiency. She exclaimed her satisfaction at giving aid to those who wish to operate more sustainably. The projects do not simply mean lower taxes but also protection of the environment and avoidance of waste, Minister Dalli exclaimed.

Over 72 applicants wished to partake in the projects, with 70 of these already finished and another 50 still ongoing. The clubs will collectively benefit from a €100,000 reduction in energy taxes per year. Dalli encouraged further collaboration, with EWA and SportMalta heralding the road towards sustainability in sport.

Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima praised the step forward taken by the 40 sport organisations to invest in sustainable energy. He focused on how several organisations, both sports related and voluntary, will be benefitting financially and thus aiding the community as well.

Aug 1 2021 Share

‘L-Erbgha Fost il-Gimgha’ host Mark Laurence Zammit took to Facebook to announce his abrupt resignation from the same programme. He opened his powerful statement by stating that in the past few months, his journalistic principles were allegedly being intruded upon by the PBS. He revealed how this was confusing his loyalty to the audience and due to this, he will no longer be captaining the TV programme.

He stated that his loyalty remains to the public and not political power, even if this is, according to Laurence Zammit, the hardest decision he has ever taken. He stated that despite this being his biggest dream, not living according to one’s conscience can turn it into a sleep-walking nightmare. He announced that he will continue his work with Times of Malta starting tomorrow Monday 2nd August 2021, exclaiming how he believes this organisation has journalists striving for truth and justice.

He thanks the team who helped him create the TV programme and WE Media, who were the first to believe in Laurence Zammit, giving him the space to grow and work. He ends his statement by thanking the public who followed his programme week by week and made ‘L-Erbgha Fost il-Gimgha’ Malta and Gozo’s favourite TV programme.
