Malta risks EU negotiation exclusion if it opposes tax deal plan

Malta risks EU negotiation exclusion if it opposes tax deal plan
Jul 20 2021 Share

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana claimed that states who oppose the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development taxation plans will be left out of negotiations. Malta therefore cannot express disagreement with the plans, otherwise risking complete exclusion from such negotiations. Caruana stated that the pandemic accelerated the EU’s efforts to push forward the idea of revenue gain.

Caruana continued on to say that the big countries wish to increase revenue from the biggest companies in the world. The pace with which these reforms are being negotiated makes most countries willing to enter negotiations. Malta can negotiate to have what we have achieved remain. Caruana labelled negotiation as our best tool ahead. Malta joined 129 other countries in backing plans by the OECD to ensure that large multinational companies pay tax in the countries they operate and earn profits in earlier this month. The impact on Malta’s taxation system following the decision is yet to be determined.

Lack of social distancing in packed Tal-Linja buses raises concerns

Lack of social distancing in packed Tal-Linja buses raises concerns
Jul 20 2021 Share

Photos show a packed Tal-Linja bus full of passengers, both sitting and standing, despite COVID-19 health restrictions. Although many do seem to be wearing their masks, the lack of social distancing raises concerns as to spread of the virus amidst the spike in daily and active cases.

This is not the first time such photographs raised similar concerns. Malta Public Transport reported back in late 2020 that drivers are advised to avoid confrontation and call the control room should passengers refuse to not board when the bus is being crowded. Back in March of this year, the Nationalist Party also called to ban standing bus passengers in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, along with other precautionary measures.

Jul 20 2021 Share

Following the joint project between Automobile Lamborghini and yacht company The Italian Sea Group’s announcement of the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63, ultimate fighting champion Conor McGregor revealed his recently finished personal yacht. McGregor secured the 12th example of only 63 models, announcing his purchase in late 2019.

The yacht has finally been revealed in its full glory, with McGregor flaunting his new yacht one social media. Powering this vessel are two 2,000-hp MAN V12 engines giving the 19.2 meter yacht a top speed of 63 knots. The Tecnomar’s carbon-fibre construction also makes it so that the yacht is in the ‘ultra-lightweight’ boat classification. McGregor will be enjoying this boat as one of the 63 lucky few who get to sail it around.
