
According to new data released by Eurostat, Malta has emerged as the country in the EU in 2023, with 76 immigrants per 1,000 residents.
The data reveals that Malta was followed by Cyprus, which had 43 immigrants per the same rate.
It was also revealed that 4.3 million people immigrated to the EU from non-EU countries in 2023, which is a decrease of 17.9% from the previous year (5.3 million).
Meanwhile the lowest rates were registered in Slovakia, with just 1 immigrant per 1,000 residents, followed by France with 6 per 1,000.
When looking at immigrants by previous country of residence, in 2023 the highest shares of immigrants from other EU countries were in Luxembourg at 85.7% and Slovakia at 57.5%.
