72 year old woman grievously injured in Attard accident

A 72 year old woman resident of Naxxar suffered grievous injuries in a traffic accident which occurred earlier today.

Police were informed at around 1100hrs that their assistance was needed in Triq l-Imdina, Ħ’Attard.

Preliminary investigations showed that the woman had been hit by a Toyota Vitz driven by a 20-year-old man resident of Mosta.

The woman was given preliminary medical aid at the site before being transported to Mater Dei Hospital via ambulance. She was later certified as having suffered grievous injuries.

Investigations are still ongoing.

Outrage as BOV triples monthly admin fee to €30

Outrage was sparked as Bank of Valletta announced that businesses that hold accounts with the bank will have to pay three times as much in administration fees as of next February.

A letter was sent out by the bank to its business clients this week announcing that the administration fee will go up to €30 from €10 due to added costs related to checks and balances.

The bank levies the fee on all non-personal customers, which means that a small business must pay €360 a year to maintain its account with the bank.

The move mirrors a similar one undertaken by rival HSBC which increased monthly fees for business clients back in 2019.

The move was slammed by the Malta Chamber of SMEs. ‘Quite a way for BOV to share its festive greetings for Christmas! Closing the year with a humbug!’

‘Just a week before Christmas we are flooded with calls, emails and messages from SMEs who are angered and feel abused by BOV’s recent announcement of yet another fee increase’ the Chamber of SMEs said in a post. ‘2022 shall surely be marked as the year of BOV fees imposed by the dominant player in the market. Where are the REGULATORS??’

Final stages of airport project: ‘delays beyond anyone’s control’

Infrastructure Malta revealed earlier today that they are officially entering the final stages of the rebuilding of the new Airport roundabout of the Kirkop Tunnels and Airport Intersection Project.

Announcing new reroutes for oncoming traffic to and from the area, Infrastructure Minister Aaron Farrugia addressed the project and work being done.

’80% ready’ the Minister said, adding that the ‘new routes can begin usage as of January of next year. Today we saw the courageous decisions and ambitious project which will improve the connections and security in the zone.’

Responding to questions, Farrugia said that certain criticisms over delays cannot be accepted as these are matters beyond anyone’s control.

Former prime minister and Labour MEP Alfred Sant had criticised the infrastructural management, calling the signage in the area primitive and dangerous. Farrugia said that they wanted people to still use the area due to airport connectivity.

Responding to these answers, Nationalist MP Adrian Delia critiqued the minister for not taking responsibility for the lack of infrastructural management. ‘The people pay for your incompetence’ said Delia.
