72% Of Maltese Would Vote In EU Elections If Held Next Week

According to new Eurobarometer Spring data regarding the European Elections taking place in June 2024, 68% of Maltese expressed interest in the elections, when compared to 60% of EU average.

Meanwhile, 72% said they are totally likely to vote if the elections were to be held next week. 17% responded as not likely to vote.

According to 81% of Maltese, the current international context makes voting even more important.

Meanwhile, 71% of Maltese said that they would personally like to see the European Parliament play a more important role. 15% said they would like to see the EU play a less important role.

Asked which values the EU Parliament should defend as a matter of priority in the next 5 years after new Members are elected, 43% of Maltese responded with peace as the most important value, followed by protection of human rights.

Two Victories For Maltese Boxers Competing In Italy

Three Maltese boxers, Jake Gomez Blanco, Logan Galea, and Kayzen Mifsud, showcased Malta’s boxing prowess in a prestigious event in Trieste, Italy, adhering to Olympic regulations.

This significant competition occurred last Saturday, April 13, resulting in two victories and one defeat based on points.

Under the guidance of Master Noel Mercieca and coach James Busuttil, supported by the Malta Boxing Federation (MBF), these athletes from Team Noel Club and Fight Factory demonstrated exceptional skill and brought honor to their clubs and country.

Jake Gomez Blanco, representing Team Noel Club, secured a notable win with a knockout in the opening round of his three-round bout. Conversely, Logan Galea, also from Team Noel Club, faced a tough opponent with more experience, ultimately losing on points in a closely contested match.

Meanwhile, Kayzen Mifsud, fighting for the Fight Factory club under Steve Martins’ guidance, triumphed with a first-round knockout, showcasing outstanding performance and determination.

Master Noel Mercieca expressed pride in his students’ achievements and thanked the Malta Boxing Federation for enabling their participation in this prestigious annual competition. This event not only highlighted the talents of Maltese boxers but also demonstrated their dedication to the sport on an international stage.

Another Injured Turtle Rescued From Marsalforn

Another injured turtle was rescued from Marsalforn on the 14th of April 2024, with ‘obvious propellor hits to the carapace’.

Wildlife Rescue Team Malta shared the operation they undertook to save the turtle after a video was taken and alerting the rescuers.

After identifying the fact of injury, Bubbles Dive Centre came in with their RHIB and divers to get the turtle onto land, where another cohort of Nature Trust – FEE Malta – Gozo Section volunteers waited with a large turtle box.

Coordination then ensued between the police, Gozo Channel Operations Limited and volunteers in Malta for ‘quick and efficient transportation; to the wildlife rehab centre at Xrobb L-Għaġin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre.

‘The turtle, named 200 Bar, has very obvious propellor hits to the carapace. Our vet will be assessing these injuries and determining the best way forward for 200 Bar.’
