7,000 vehicles stopped at roadblocks; firearm, among other items found in vehicle

The Malta Police Force has been present in Malta’s roads while they have been inspecting vehicles on a regular basis. Between October of 2020 and December of 2020, around 7,000 vehicles were stopped at roadblocks.

100’s of contraventions were issues for the following offences; driving under the influence, possessions of a firearm or other dangerous items, possession of drugs, vehicles without license plates, vehicles with faulty headlights, drivers without a seatbelt, use of mobile phones while driving, people driving without a license and other offences.

The Malta Police Force has promised to continue to uphold such inspections and roadblocks in the coming days, weeks and months in order to keep Malta as safe as possible.

Malta Nationalist Party reveals shadow cabinet

The Malta Nationalist Party has revealed its new shadow cabinet. A number of MP’s have retained their previous roles and portfolios, like Robert Arrigo and Stephen Spiteri.

Former PN leader, Adrian Delia has refused to take on a spokesperson role within the shadow cabinet.

This shadow cabinet reshuffle happened within Bernard Grech’s first 100 days as Nationalist Party Leader.

Daniel Micallef opens up about his support for euthanasia after losing his father

Daniel Micallef who is currently the Deputy Leader of Party Affairs, within the Malta Labour Party opened up to the Times of Malta about his support of euthanasia.

Daniel had lost his father to a terminal illness and after watching him suffer tremendously he thought about the fact that if it were to be him, who was in a similar position he’d want the option to decide what to do with his life and his body.

Recently, Prime Minister Robert Abela brought the issue to light and said that it deserves proper national discussion.

In Malta, Euthanasia is punishable by up to 12 years imprisonment.

187 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 189 recoveries

Malta has registered 187 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,879 swab tests, while 189 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Tuesday 19th January 2021, 14,276 vaccine doses were administered.

To date, Malta has registered 16,129 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 13,054 have recovered, 244 died and 2,831 are still active.
