7 Beach Hacks Perfect For A Hot Maltese Summer Day

7 Beach Hacks Perfect For A Hot Maltese Summer Day
Jun 26 2024 Share

Ah, summer in Malta – the sun, the sea, and the sand. There’s nothing quite like spending a day at the beach, soaking up the rays and cooling off in the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean.

But while a day at the beach is always a good idea, it can sometimes be a bit of a hassle. From lugging around heavy bags to dealing with sand in all the wrong places, beach days aren’t always as relaxing as they should be.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of beach hacks to help you make the most of your summer days out. So grab your sunscreen and your flip-flops, because it’s time to hit the beach!

Secure Your Valuables

Scared to leave your valuables unattended while you hit the water? Gain peace of mind by simply packing them in a ziplock bag and burying them in the sand under your towel. If you’re on a rocky beach, you can put them inside a nappy instead! It’s a sneaky yet effective way to outsmart any would-be thieves.

Vinegar for Jelly Stings

Jellyfish stings suck! If you’re unlucky enough to get one, and are not too keen on soothing it ‘the old natural way’, reach for the vinegar instead! Applying vinegar to the affected area can help alleviate the pain and discomfort, allowing you to get back to enjoying your day at the beach.

Freeze Aloe Gel

Sunburn or skin irritation can put a serious damper on your beach day. To combat this, freeze some aloe vera gel in an ice cube tray and keep it in your cooler. Simply pop out a frozen cube and gently rub it onto irritated areas for refreshing and soothing relief.

Bring a Fitted Sheet

Tired of getting sand all over your towel? Use a fitted sheet instead! Simply place the fitted sheet upside down on the sand and anchor the corners with bags to hold up the sides. The raised edges of the sheet will create a sand-free zone for you to relax in.

Remove Sand With Baby Powder

Sand, it’s comfy to lie on and great fun to play with, until you have to leave and it’s stuck in all the wrong places. Enter baby powder, the ultimate sandy beach essential! Just a sprinkle of this magical powder on your hands, feet, or wherever sand is clinging, and voila! It brushes off effortlessly, leaving you feeling smooth and sand-free.

Quick-Dry Your Swim Shorts

Don’t let a soggy bottom ruin your post-beach plans. To speed up the drying process of your swim shorts, wrap a towel around your waist and squat down for a while. This trick helps to absorb excess water, leaving your swimsuit drier and less irritating.

A Cooler Cooler

Keep your drinks and snacks cooler for longer by burying your cooler in the sand. The sand acts as a natural insulator, keeping the contents of your cooler chilled and refreshing, even on the hottest summer days.

Add A Little Sizzle

So there you have it, with these ingenious hacks you’ll be beaching it like a pro in no time. But why stop there when you can add a little extra sizzle to your summer?

Valletta’s Maestro Vinny Vella Senior passed away on Wednesday at the age of 96. A renowned clarinet and saxophone player, Vella’s career spanned from the 1940s to the 1990s.

He led the band Vinny’s Blue Jackets and performed with notable artists like Albano Carrisi, Bobby Solo, and Wilma De Angelis. Vella was closely associated with venues such as The Premier, Phoenicia, Strait Street, and Chalet.

His grandson Jamie shared with Times of Malta that Vella was among the musicians who performed at a ball in Malta attended by then-Princess Elizabeth.

On Facebook, Jamie remembered him as a “true legend” and “nannu Vinny,” the heart of their family, expressing gratitude for his love, wisdom, and music.

As news of his death spread, many paid tribute to Vella on social media. Fellow musician Mark Spiteri Lucas credited Vella with shaping Malta’s musical scene in the latter half of the 20th century.

Vella is survived by his three children, Tania, Carmen, and Vinny Jr., who continued his father’s musical legacy.
