Following the bombardment of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, EU President Roberta Metsola came out against the Russian bombing of the city, which also saw civilians being killed and injured in the attack.

‘What is happening now in Kyiv is sickening’ said Metsola. ‘It shows the world, again, the regime we are faced with: One that targets indiscriminately. One that rains terror and death down on children.’

‘This is criminal’ she said. ‘They will be held to account. Ukraine will win. Europe will not look away.’

The capital city had not been bombed since the 26th of June as the war was pushed further into the bordering localities of Ukraine. However, Putin’s Russia blamed Ukraine for the recent explosions which took place on a bridge connecting Russia with annexed Crimea.

The bombardment of Kyiv follows this bridge bombing, which Ukraine has not taken responsibility for. However, Putin still labelled Ukraine as engaging in terrorist acts.

Following the deadly blast on the bridge linking Crimea to Russia and the latter’s blaming of Ukraine, capital Kyiv underwent a reinvigorated bombardment by Moscow’s forces on Monday morning.

The Ukraine presidency reported 75 missiles being fired by Russia, with the governor of Ukraine’s western region of Lviv saying the bombing targeted energy facilities and citizen areas.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that this morning is particularly difficult as Ukraine deals with terrorists, in reference to Putin’s Russia. The second target, Zelenskyy said, is the people.

The explosions were reported at around 0815hrs, with the last bombing of Kyiv having taken place on June 26th. The Crimea bridge explosion had left three dead, with Russia blaming Ukraine for the attack.

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the attack on the bridge as a terrorist act and said that the authors, perpetrators and sponsors are the Ukrainian secret services.

Meanwhile, a missile strike on Sunday in Zaporizhzhia, a southern Ukrainian city, killed at least 13 people and wounded 89 people, including 11 children. Zelenskyy denounced the attack as the work of absolute evil and savages.

‘Despite the assurances that we have received from the college’s administration’ the parents/guardians stated that they have learned from the media and other sources that nearly a quarter of the College’s staff have resigned.

There is massive worry due to the fact that children have missed a considerably large number of hours from there learning and that indications show that these missed lessons shall increase in the coming weeks with irreversible repercussions especially on those students soon to be sitting from their SEC exams.

‘[We] are distraught because the students who need most support in their learning process are the most disadvantaged in this situation.’

‘Therefore, we parents/guardians of students at St. Albert the Great College, are requesting that the Minister for Education and all who hold the competent authority over our children’s education, implement all that is necessary to step in to ensure that the contingency plan announced by His Excellency Archbishop of Malta can come to effect together with a healing process for this educational community.’
