Over the past few days, work by the Malta Police Force in relation to irregular immigration took place.
Following further investigations, the police carried out various inspections which resulted in the arrest of 66 persons who were found to be living in Malta irregularly.
In work done in Gwardamanġa, Santa Venera, Ħamrun and Ħ’Attard, 21 persons were found living irregularly. meanwhile, another 23 irregular immigrants were found in inspections cared out in Marsa and Ħal Qormi.
After more days of surveillance, a number of arrests took place in Marsa last night, principally concerned with the abuse of the immigration systems. Another 22 persons were arrested.
The nationalities of the persons in question were mainly Syrian, with some nationalities hailing from other African countries.
The persons are being detained in the Detention Centre, with the process of repatriation underway.
Police investigations are ongoing. The work was carried out through the effort of various branches of the police force, with the assistance of the Detention Services.
