Italy could make COVID-19 vaccines mandatory, says PM Mario Draghi

Sep 4 2021 Share

Italy’s prime minister Mario Draghi has announced that the government could soon make COVID-19 vaccine mandatory in the country, sparking a surge in protests from anti-vaxxers.

Following the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) approval of four vaccines, Draghi stated that Italians of eligible age may soon be obliged to be vaccinated during last Thursday’s press conference.

This news was not welcomed by anti-vaxxers in Italy who have recently been reported to send death threats to the government, virologists and journalists due to pro-vaccine stances, with Draghi expressing solidarity with the people who are suffering due to the “cowardly violence on the part of anti-vaxxers”.
