The Repubblika 50th anniversary celebrations reached their grand finale yesterday, and what a weekend it has been! Over three unforgettable days, more than 6,000 people flocked to St. George’s Square in Valletta to take part in this historic occasion.
In the same square where, 50 years ago, the Maltese and Gozitan people gathered to greet Malta’s first President following the Republic’s proclamation, this weekend’s festivities paid tribute to that pivotal moment in our history. The highlight? The mesmerising spectacle “L-Istorja, Aħna” — a performance created by the Maltese, for the Maltese.
The show honoured Malta’s incredible journey, from ancient times to the modern day, with special emphasis on the key moments that shaped us as a nation. Through stunning visual artistry, “L-Istorja, Aħna” brought our collective story to life in a way never seen before, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who witnessed it.
With an original musical score and narration by actress Cassandra Spiteri, embodying the spirit of Malta herself, the production guided audiences through the nation’s history. It featured the remarkable talents of Malta’s top artists and technical teams, who worked tirelessly to create a show of this calibre.
From Friday to Sunday, the vibrant energy in Valletta was palpable, with families, friends, and history enthusiasts coming together to celebrate. The audiovisual extravaganza, combined with a heartfelt message of unity, ensured this milestone anniversary was unforgettable for all attendees.
With over 6,000 attendees throughout the weekend, the event truly brought Malta’s people together in a spirit of pride and celebration.
