Six individuals have been reported by Malta Ranger Unit officials for littering and illegal fire on top of a Mediterranean Thyme.

The Malta Ranger Unit Facebook page stated that the Natura 2000 site of ‘Ir-Ramla taċ-Ċirkewwa sal-Ponta ta’ Bengħisa’, Għar Lapsi in this case, continues to face visitors which do not respect the environment they are in.

The Rangers reportedly documented the illegal acts, alerted the Siggiewi & Zebbug Community Policing Team and made a report, which was enough for the police to press charges.

Photos shared by the unit show one individual throwing a plastic bottle, leftover food which attracts rats and poses a threat to breeding seabirds and ongoing fire on the protected Mediterranean Thyme.

“Fines for littering within a protected site are between €450 – €1150 (additional €300-1000 on the €150 for littering/incorrectly disposing of waste”, the post read.

The Malta Ranger Unit thanked PC218 and 981 from the Community Policy Team and the Inspector of the EPU for continuous hard work to safeguard the Maltese environment.

Let’s face it, living in Malta and not having tried pastizzi is absolutely unheard of and while we have adopted the diamond-shaped snack as part of culture and gastronomy, few truly appreciate the craft of pastizzi-making.

Thankfully, local pastizzar Roderick Mizzi shared a little bit of insight as to how Malta’s favourite flaky snack is made, clinically crafting pastizzi tal-piżelli like an absolute machine before he lays them on a tray to be put in the oven.

In 7-second pcokets, Mizzi opens up a cube of fresh dough, hand-moulds it into a semi-pastizzi shape, deposits the delicious pea filling and ultimately forms it into the iconic final shape before it is then put into an oven and made ready for distribution.

The process video has garnered over 21,000 views at the time of posting, with likes and shares on the rise as TikTok users continue to appreciate the local craft.

NASA is tracking an asteroid which may hit Earth on Valentine’s Day 2046

NASA is tracking asteroid which may hit Earth on Valentine's Day 2046
Mar 13 2023 Share

Space experts are following a large new asteroid which may hit Earth on Valentine’s Day 2046, so don’t make any plans just yet.

The 50-metre wide asteroid has been named 2023 DW and may take two-to-three decades to reach earth, according to these same experts. The object was discovered by the European Space Agency on February 26, estimated of having a one-in-607 chance of affecting heart.

In comparison, 2023 DW is thought to be the length of an Olympic swimming pool, but reporters have also stated that the asteroid’s size uncertainty could be large.

The asteroid has since been added to what has been called a “risk list” which monitors objects floating to space that may affect Earth.

Based on the Torino Impact Hazard Scale, a tool for categorising potential Earth Impact event, the new asteroid was ranked a one, meaning that it “poses no unusual level of danger” and “there is no cause for public attention or public concern”, according to NASA’s Center for Near Earth Objects.

Are you at all concerned about the arrival of 2023 DW?
