Jul 11 2024 Share

By the end of this week, additional student allowance payments will be made for those continuing their studies beyond secondary education. In fact, 574 more families will receive payments, with an investment of €290,000.

As a result, the total number of benefiting families has surpassed 10,000, while the number of eligible students has reached 11,000.

So far, €5.5 million has been invested in this benefit alone.

The families receiving payments at the end of the week include those with children studying in private or foreign educational institutions and other cases that were not paid in May because their information was not yet updated.

There are still 472 cases being vetted, where data from the Department of Education and Social Security is being compared. The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights is making every effort to complete this process as soon as possible.

PN Court Case Over Vitals Money Dismissed By Judge

PN Court Case Over Vitals Money Dismissed By Judge

Judge Toni Abela has rejected a request from Opposition leader Bernard Grech and MP Adrian Delia to compel the State Advocate to reclaim funds lost in a fraudulent hospitals deal.

Abela stated that it was beyond the court’s authority to direct the State Advocate’s actions.

The case arose late last year after a court nullified the hospitals deal, declaring it fraudulent. The Opposition MPs sought a court order for the State Advocate to recover up to €400 million in taxpayer money paid to the deal’s concessionaires, initially Vitals and later Steward.

Following the judgment, Grech made a brief statement outside the courthouse, asserting that it was now the State Advocate’s responsibility to pursue legal action to recover the fraudulently spent funds.

He criticised the government for not taking adequate steps to reclaim the money given to the private companies. Grech added that the PN would review the judgment to decide their next steps.
