Malta has registered 55 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,227 swab tests, while 45 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.
As of Thursday 8th April 2021, 227,606 vaccine doses were administered of which 63,114 were 2nd doses.
To date, Malta has registered 29,463 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 28,508 have recovered, 401 died and 554 are still active.

The Activist group Civil Society Network has stated that the COVID-19 home inspections carried out is a breach of fundamental human rights to privacy. The group stated that it ‘laments the lack of safeguards with regards to house visits authorised by delegated laws by the Superintendent of Public Health.’ It also added that even though it appreciates the need to mitigate the virus, ‘this should not be done at the expense of fundamental rights.’
Speaking in a press conference, Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that the permission given to authorities to inspect private homes are not breaching human rights. CSN has called for safeguards to regulate the use of this authority, including clear public guidelines for the authorities to follow. The activist group disagreed with the Prime Minister in regards to the fact that despite something being a law, it does not raise any legal concerns.

A video has surfaced on social media depicting yet another rave happening behind closed doors. This is in clear violation of many current COVID-19 measures put in place to mitigate the spread of the virus. The individuals in the video are as of yet unidentified but the public gathering shows multiple young people celebrating along with fireworks and an entire DJ set.
The clubbing industry has indeed been closed to safeguard people’s health but the surfacing of illegal parties continues on social media. We do not approve of these clear health measure breaches as it continues to put people at risk and prolongs the suffering of many businesses as they remain closed along with other club artists who are abiding by the measures. We urge people to be more cautious and abide by the health measures put in place by the health authorities to safeguard the lives of many during these trying times.

Researchers reported in the Lancet Psychiatry journal that around one in three people who were infected with COVID-19 have longer term mental health or neurological symptoms. 34% of COVID-19 survivors received a diagnosis for a neurological or psychological condition within six months of infection. Anxiety was the most common diagnosis found in 17% of those treated, with mood disorders following at second place at 14%.
Co-author of the new study Maxime Taquet stated the rate increased progressively as the severity of the illness increased. It increased to 39% in patients who were hospitalised. The study help light the way for how healthcare systems ought to treat COVID-19 survivors.
