55 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 6 recoveries

Malta has registered 55 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,668 swab tests, while 6 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

Till Yesterday, 696,858 vaccine doses were administered of which 367,086 were 1st doses. 344,666 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 30,755 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 30,176 have recovered, 420 died and 159 are still active.

162 suicides in Malta since 2015; 80% of victims were male

Between January 2015 and June 2021, the Malta Police Force registered 162 cases of suicide in Malta, with 80% of victims being male.

131 of cases were male while 31 cases were female, with most cases occurring in 2015 where 7 female cases and 29 male cases were registered.

This information was revealed by Minister for Internal Affairs Byron Camilleri following a parliamentary inquiry by Nationalist MP Claudette Buttigieg.

A recent report also noted that Mount Carmel Hospital registered an increase in suicide attempts since the beginning of the pandemic, also noting an increase in admissions in 2020 compared to 2019.

Peppi Azzopardi states Corradino did not allow prisoner to enter rehab prior to suicide

Local media personality and activist Peppi Azzopardi took to social media on Wednesday to state that the administration of Corradino Correctional Facility did not allow a prisoner to enter into a Caritas rehabilitation programme but ‘let her commit suicide’.

Mill-Ħabs ma ħallewhiex tmur tagħmel programm il-Caritas imma ħallewha tagħmel suwiċidju.

The Times of Malta had confirmed that the 29-year-old wanted to follow a Caritas programme but was not allowed to do so due to ‘the current legislation’. The female prisoner had been found unconscious in her prison cell after a suicide attempt only two weeks before dying in hospital on Sunday.

The local content creator just celebrated her 1-year anniversary back in June and posted a brand collaboration video with a baby stroller which closes automatically, which welcomed a flurry of likes and comments on the reel.
