A European Parliament survey on young EU citizens aged 16-30 reveals key insights about Maltese youth. The cost of living remains their biggest concern, mirroring European trends, while issues like economic stability, job creation, healthcare, and education also rank high.
When it comes to their stance on the EU, 42% of Maltese respondents support the union but are dissatisfied with how it currently operates.
In contrast to the 39% EU average, only 28% of Maltese youth said they voted in a local, national, or European election, with 37% abstaining due to a lack of relatable candidates or parties—significantly higher than the 15% European average.

Additionally, 22% participated in political activism by signing or creating petitions.
Social media is the primary news source for 47% of Maltese youth, particularly TikTok and Instagram, reflecting wider European trends.
However, Malta also records the highest exposure to disinformation in the EU—59% believe they have encountered fake news, with 30% saying they often see it and 29% saying very often.
Despite this, Maltese youth are among the most confident in identifying disinformation.
The Eurobarometer Youth Survey, conducted by Ipsos between September 25 and October 3, 2024, sampled 502 young Maltese respondents as part of a wider EU study of 25,863 participants across 27 member states.
