438 Gozitan educators operating in Maltese schools

According to information tabled in parliament, there are currently 438 Gozitan educators working in state schools across Malta. Education minister Justyne Caruana confirmed the information, revealing that 210 teachers and 228 LSEs from Malta’s sister island are currently employed in all levels from primary to post secondary schools.

Gozitans working in the Maltese public sector are given priority should any vacancies in Gozo arise, according to seniority in line with longstanding practice. Gozitan residents who work in Malta are eligible for an annual subsidy of €650 to cover collective transport costs. For educators, the subsidy is reduced to €525 as summer holidays are taken into consideration.

Emirates to resume flights to and from Malta on 14th July

Emirates has announced that it will be resuming three weekly services to Malta via Larnaca, Cyprus starting 14th July 2021. Malta has welcomed more tourists through it successful vaccination rollout and herd immunity achievement, with tourists being able to fly to the island as of 1st June. Emirates flights to and from Malta will be operating three times a week through the airline’s Larnaca service.

Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo also announced the news, expressing his joy about the positive news. The airline had ceased flights to Malta around a year ago. Now, travellers departing from Malta to United Arab Emirates should check and follow applicable COVID-19 health directives as the airline reopens its connections with Malta.

Hundreds of fines for illegal gatherings issued last weekend

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri stated that authorities handed out hundreds of fines last week due to illegal gatherings which happened in the Sliema area. With residents complaining about beach parties lasting into the early hours of the morning, these events have been occurring up to five times a week.

Despite being banned under COVID-19 regulations, these mass gatherings show no sign of stopping. The Minister stated that police have been conducting inspections all over Malta, with people caught breaking these health restrictions having to pay the monetary consequences. 755 fines were issued over the previous week, with 176 issued for public gatherings and 540 to mask related breaches.

4 COVID-19 cases registered with 5 recoveries

Malta has registered 4 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,123 swab tests, while 5 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Thursday 10th June 2021, 570,513 vaccine doses were administered of which 333,197 were 1st doses. 246,964 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 30,577 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 30,091 have recovered, 419 died and 67 are still active.
