According to a new survey concerning ‘Young People’s Opinions On European Affairs’ by Kunsill Nazzjonali taż-Żgħażagħ (KNZ), 77.6% of Maltese youth responding (90) said they will be voting in the upcoming European Parliament and Local Council elections.
However, when asked about their opinion of how the majority of young people will cast their first preference vote, the second largest group (38.8%) said that youth won’t vote.
The majority in second category was a vote for the Labour Party at 43.1%, followed by a third category for the Nationalist Party at 10.3%.
Conducted by the National Youth Council of Malta in the lead-up to the 2024 European Parliament elections an online questionnaire collected both qualitative and quantitative data from 117 respondents, aged 16-35.
The survey found that for 68.4% of respondents, Malta’s EU Membership mattered more than Malta’s Neutrality. 53% even said that they trust the European Institutions more, with 9.4% saying they trust the Maltese state more. 25.6% said they trust neither.
