Prosecutors even described in court how he had planned the double-murder with intricate detail. He built his own makeshift gun, along with a silencer and proceeded to shoot both victims at close range.

He cleaned up the traces of his crime and dumped their bodies in a field. The bodies were unrecognisable due to the injuries and had their bleeding heads wrapped in garbage bags.

Bonnici stuck to a not guilty plea for most of the court case but, after a plea bargaining exercise, the Attorney General and Bonnici’s lawyers filed a joint application suggesting a 36 year prison term. He was also fined €18,909.91.

Internal divisions impacted PN’s election result admits Grech

Opposition party leader Bernard Grech admitted during an internal due diligence exercise that the party’s internal divisions had major impact on the election result.

Grech has previously repeatedly claimed that he managed to unite the party during his one-year-and-a-half role as leader. However, during the exercise, he focused on the internal divisions as having played a major role in the electoral defeat.

With a gap between Labour and PN racking up to 40,000 votes, Grech told the commission that he intends to restructure the party to ensure that everyone can contribute to making the party become ‘more electable.’

This comes after former MP Jason Azzopardi, having failed to be elected, resigned from the party and made allegations about Grech having received donations in exchange for a pardon for a murder suspect.

Speaking during the exercise, Grech also delved into thee party’s financial issues. He once again ensured that he will be appointing a group of experts to help the party address the challenges.

A man was evicted by police from Golden Bay Beach after a group of girls reported that he had been stalking them for quite a while.

The Heritage Parks Federation Ranger Unit (HPF) posted to Facebook revealing that patrolling rangers spotted a man known to them who seemed to follow a group of young girls around.

The rangers approached the girls and made sure everything was okay. However, one of the girls expressed stress that the man had followed them and tried to approach them without consent.

The rangers acted swiftly and called for police assistance. Police convened on site and a report was filed. The man was removed from the beach, with rangers staying close the girls until they departed.

Malta is the EU’s most noise polluting and most obese country

Malta is the EU’s most noise polluting and most obese country
May 23 2022 Share

Not only has Malta just been confirmed as the EU’s most obese country, but a recent report also confirmed that the island has the highest amount of noise pollution.

According to a Eurostat study, the latest figures show that Malta’s obesity rate shoots up to 28.7%, making it the largest one in the bloc.

The obesity rate in the EU increased on an annual basis, with this report confirming a recent WHO study that around 40% of Maltese children are overweight.

Maltese kids aged 5 to 9 years were the third most overweight across all sexes, with adolescents aged 10 to 19 placing second. However, this was not the only issue highlighted by international reports.

The island caught the eye – or rather, the ear – of the European Commission as a study confirmed that just over 30% of people say that they suffer from some form of noise pollution.

Due to its construction sites and hectic traffic, 30.8% of Malta’s inhabitants said they were suffering from nose pollution. This increased from 2016, but the study is based on the perception of people living in the country.
