35 COVID-19 cases registered with 16 recoveries

Malta has registered 35 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 1,550 swab tests, while 16 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Monday 3rd May 2021, 341,909 vaccine doses were administered of which 108,716 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 30,354 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 29,658 have recovered, 416 died and 280 are still active.

Around 150 people were fined by the authorities throughout the weekend following reports of crowds in Pembroke and Mellieha. Whilst addressing the health measure breaches, a police officer was also attacked and slightly injured in the process. Several people were found drinking at the Natura 2000 site in Pembroke, with those present trying to escape upon witnessing the police.

80 fines were issued related to mask-wearing measure breaches and amount of people allowed together in groups. 35 people were fined when at around 2am on Sunday more people were found drinking on the rocks. A private residence was also found to have housed 35 people on Friday after reports were received when loud music was heard.

The Valletta Cultural Agency have announced that from Friday 7th of May 2021 to Tuesday 11th, the capital city of Malta, Valletta, will be transformed into a green paradise. A temporary garden will be installed in Freedom Square in front of the Parliamentary Building, with trees along Republic Street and the biggest infiorata ever installed in Malta along St George’s Square.

Potted trees will also be installed Pjazza de Vallette. But that’s not all as St George’s Square will also see tents by parks and a beehive installation by ERA. Those entering Valletta this morning were already welcomed with a beautiful and colourful garden as the festival gears up for its start next Friday.
