32-year-old Pakistani arrested over alleged sexual activity with minor

Investigations held by the Malta Force’s Vice Squad and Paola District have led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man from Pakistan in relation to alleged sexual activity with a minor.

Magistrate Dr. Donatella Frendo Dimech LL.D opened the inquiry while police investigations are currently under way.

The man is currently being held under arrest while the police conduct their investigation and is expected to be taken to court in the coming hours.

Italian PM Conte to resign amid pandemic criticism

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte will hand in his resignation amid harsh criticism with regards to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thus far, Italy has registered over 85,000 COVID-19 deaths with Conte hoping for a presidential mandate to form a stronger government following his losing the majority in the Italian Senate.

The law professor has led two coalition governments since 2018 and is set to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella to decide the way forward.

Prime Minister confirms that bars will remain closed

Prime Minister Robert Abela has confirmed that bars will remain close beyond the previously predicted deadline.

The PM has ruled out a curfew and a lockdown but has said that new measures will be in place ahead of Carnival in February.

The government is also going to announce aid packages for people who’ve had to keep their business closed for months.

138 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 128 recoveries

Malta has registered 138 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,248 swab tests, while 128 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Monday 25th January 2021, 21,172 vaccine doses were administered of which 1,463 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 16,999 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 14,104 have recovered, 255 died and 2,640 are still active.
