In remembrance of Paulina Dembska, the Polish woman tragically murdered in Sliema on the 2nd of January of 2022, a collar with her name engraved has been placed on the notorious cat statue in the Independence Garden on the 3rd anniversary of her death.

Dembska, a dedicated cat feeder, was found murdered near the spot where she cared for strays, three years ago today. Her murder sparked a national outcry and led to the introduction of femicide in Malta’s criminal code.

The gesture, shared by artist Matthew Pandolfino, honours her love for animals and her tragic death.

The case remains in court, and the memorials nearby continue to honour her legacy.

Rest in peace Paulina.

Known for blending classical and pop music with a vibrant stage presence, Calleja performed alongside singers from all EU member states in a show dedicated to peace and unity.

The event, which aimed to promote understanding during turbulent times, highlighted the cultural richness of Europe. Mága Zoltán, the organiser, described the concert as a way to use music to connect people across borders.

Reflecting on the experience, Calleja shared his pride in flying Malta’s flag at such a significant event. “Music brings people together in a way few things can. It was a privilege to stand on that stage and be part of something so meaningful,” he said.

For Calleja, the concert wasn’t just about showcasing his talent—it was about representing Malta’s spirit of resilience and solidarity. The event, which featured artists from across Europe, reminded audiences of the power of music to transcend differences and inspire hope.
