3 Men Arrested For Possession of Heroin in Mosta

An investigation into drug trafficking by the police has led to the arrest of three men in Bugibba and Mosta. The arrests were made after a vehicle was stopped in Bugibba on Friday, and subsequent searches revealed suspected drugs in the possession of the suspects.

The vehicle, driven by a 50-year-old man, was carrying another man aged 39. Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered several sachets containing suspected cocaine and heroin, indicating preparation for trafficking.

Following this discovery, the police continued their search in Mosta, specifically at the residence of the 50-year-old driver. Inside the residence, they found a significant quantity of suspected pure heroin, estimated to be around 700 grams, along with a firearm and ammunition. Additionally, various other items commonly associated with drug trafficking were seized by the authorities.

The three suspects, aged 50, 39, and 24 respectively, will be brought before Magistrate Dr. Rachel Montebello LL.D. around 12:30 PM for further legal proceedings.

Immediate action saw an elderly woman saved from a fire that broke out in her residence.

Last Thursday, at around 1730hrs, police were deployed to Triq Raymond Caruana, Gudja.

Upon arrival, the officers noticed smoke emerging from a residence as they were informed that were a person living in the same residence.

They immediately entered the residence, going up to the upper storey and found a 72 year old woman in a state of panic.

The woman was not cognisant of the immediate danger she was in due to the large amount of smoke in the residence.

The woman, who had inhaled a lot of smoke, was escorted out of the building and given assistance by a medical team on site.

Civil Protection Department Officers later arrived on site to control the fire, which seemingly caught due to a candle.

A big weekend for football wins!

Birkirkara secured victory in the Assikura Women’s Knockout, claiming their 17th title. Valentina Rapa and Sara Saliba scored a goal each, leading the team to victory.

The win completed Birkirkara’s domestic treble, adding to their league and Super Cup triumphs. Hibernians started with veteran goalkeeper Sharon Costantino and fielded Yolande Attard and Nicole Sciberras due to injuries.

Birkirkara featured former Malta goalkeeper Tonina Dimech and Arianna Del Moral, who played a vital role. Marta Grosso and Veronique Mifsud had chances for Birkirkara, but Costantino’s saves denied them. Rapa’s goal, assisted by Ann-Marie Said’s freekick, secured the win for Birkirkara.

Despite efforts from Mifsud, Hibernians couldn’t equalize, and Birkirkara emerged victorious in the final.
