Hunting and trapping are pastimes that should stay legal’ says Edwin Vassallo

May 25 2021 Share

PN deputy Edwin Vassallo declared in parliament that hunting and trapping are pastimes that should not be removed or banned in Malta. He highlighted moving towards a sustainable form of hunting which entails knowing how much wildlife should be bred for all that was hunted.

Vassallo stated that the prime killer for birds is neither trapping nor hunting, but pesticides in fields and the amount of land destroyed. Vassallo stated that this is also detrimental to human beings, and has even led to death in some cases. He stated that a balance needs to be struck and that progress does not become regress and ended by saying that a hunter is the one who is knowledgeable about his practice and not he who shoots at protected species.
