27-Year-Old Man Who Assaulted Pregnant Partner Denied Bail

Sep 26 2024 Share

A wanted man who has been missing for the last 9 months has turned himself in to the authorities after allegedly assaulting his pregnant partner and dragging her by her hair.

27-year-old Dylan Magro has been on the lookout by the police ever since Magro reportedly beat his 8-week pregnant girlfriend after an argument at her Marsascala residence.

He reportedly hit his partner with her mobile phone on her head, also damaging the device and later dragging her by the hair beating her and stealing her car keys.

The woman was able to walk to the police station to report the situation, while her partner disappeared.

After months of the police trying to find him, word got around that Magro returned to his ex partner’s residence.

Magro managed to escape the police but later that Tuesday turned himself in.

During his arraignment on Wednesday, the man pleaded not guilty to multiple charges related to several incidents, including causing slight injuries to his partner and two police officers, as well as violently resisting arrest.

His legal aid lawyer sought to raise an insanity defense, requesting the duty magistrate appoint three psychiatrists to evaluate the defendant’s mental state at the time of the alleged offences and determine if he is fit to stand trial.

Magistrate Nadia Helena Vella turned down the insanity plea, since there was no signs of the accused being insane during the arraignment.

The court also rejected a request for bail due to the gravity of the charges.

10 Expelled By Vatican In Peru: Malta’s Archbishop Leads Investigation

10 Expelled By Vatican In Peru: Malta's Archbishop Leads Investigation
Sep 26 2024 Share

Pope Francis has expelled 10 individuals, including a bishop, priests, and laypeople, from the Catholic group Sodalitium of Christian Life in Peru after a Vatican investigation uncovered severe abuses.

Led by Maltese Archbishop Charles Scicluna, the investigation revealed “sadistic” abuses of power, authority, and spirituality. The expulsions follow the pope’s earlier decision to remove the group’s founder, Luis Figari, who was found guilty of sodomizing recruits.

A statement by the Peruvian Bishops Conference confirmed the expulsions, citing a special decision by the pope. Investigators uncovered physical abuse involving violence and sadism, as well as spiritual, economic, and journalistic abuses.

A 2017 independent investigation had previously described Figari as manipulative, narcissistic, and obsessed with the sexual orientation of his members. It also detailed how he forced recruits to perform sexual acts, deriving pleasure from their pain and humiliation.

The Vatican’s rare transparency in revealing these findings contrasts with its usual secrecy.

While the practical enforcement of the expulsions remains unclear, the public nature of the decision signals Pope Francis’ willingness to take an unconventional approach to church law and send a strong message regarding such abuses within the church.
