25,500 Locals Now Live Within 10 Minutes Of A Green Open Space

Project Green have revealed that up to 25,500 local residents now live within 10 minutes of a green open space – part of the effort to introduce more greenery and nature spots around the island.

With improved accessibility and well-being for all, 15 open spaces and valleys were completed in 2024 alone.

This adds 70,000 metres squared of greenery across the Maltese islands. Furthermore, next year, 2025, will see an addition of 120,000 metres squared of green open spaces and valleys.

Works will also be kickstarting on an additional 1.3 million metres squared!

A charity football match in aid of @alsmalta is set to take place on December 29, 2024, at 16:30 at Luxol Stadium, offering a chance for the community to come together and support a meaningful cause this festive season. The event is all about giving back to those less fortunate, particularly those affected by ALS, and creating a fun, memorable experience for everyone involved.

Organizers are inviting everyone to gather their friends and family and head to the pitch for a great time. Tickets for the match can be found through the bios of those involved, making it easy for supporters to get theirs ahead of time. For anyone who decides to come by on the day, entry will be available for a small donation, making it accessible to all. 

This charity football match promises to be a fantastic and heartwarming event, combining the holiday spirit with the chance to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by ALS.

You Can Now Leave Electronics, Liquids In Luggage At Airport Security

The Malta International Airport have announced that passengers can now leave liquids and electronics inside one’s luggage when clearing security.

With all six new security scanners now installed at the Central Security Screening Area, passengers will no longer be required to remove liquids or electronics from hand luggage.

‘While the 100ml restriction on liquids in place, certain exceptions apply to items such as medications and food for infants.’

Brand New Mural By UOM Students Unveiled

Brand New Mural By UOM Students Unveiled

University of Malta students have created a striking mural that explores Malta’s identity by blending its rich history and contemporary culture.

Located in the tunnel connecting the Msida campus and Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex, the artwork was unveiled by Rector Prof. Alfred Vella alongside representatives from Arts Council Malta.

The mural, part of the “Interdisciplinary Murals” project, was led by Prof. Raphael Vella and Dr. Edward Duca and supported by Arts Council Malta’s Arts in School scheme.

Students from the Master in Teaching and Learning (Art) program collaborated with Spanish street artist Pep Walls, using their academic studies to inspire their work.

Lectures on topics such as the Megalithic Temples of Malta, the Knights Hospitaller, Maltese genetics, and connections between diaspora and contemporary art guided their research. Professors Nicholas C. Vella, Emanuel Buttigieg, Joseph Borg, and Thomas Scicluna contributed their expertise.

The students chose a “multispecies” approach, linking Maltese identity to the land, sea, and endemic species while incorporating elements of Tberfil, a cherished local font.

Contributors to the mural include Sherise Attard, Edera Muscat, Kristine Saliba Caruana, Peter Aquilina, Carlos Cutajar, Aden Cacciattolo, and Mikael Scicluna, combining art and history in a vivid celebration of Malta.
