213 COVID-19 cases registered with 316 recoveries

Malta has registered 213 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,870 swab tests, while 316 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Monday 15th March 2021, 122,366 vaccine doses were administered of which 39,695 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 26,748 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 23,376 have recovered, 354 died and 3,018 are still active.

Police Officers Union files industrial dispute as quarantine leave refused

The Police Officers Union within the GWU has issued industrial action directives to its members after leave for quarantine dispute remains unresolved with the government. The union has ordered officers to not wear ties, berets or shave after COVID-19 positive officers were not given quarantine leave. The issue goes back to January as POU claimed officers were not given quarantine leave.

The symbolic directives will be put into force tomorrow at 9AM as no resolution seems to be made. PN has criticised the decision to categorise COVID-19 absences from work as sick leaves and not quarantine leave.

Angel di Maria and Marquinhos’ families held hostage in robbery

Argentine football player Angel Di Maria and Brazilian player Marquinho were informed that their families were being held hostage in a violent robbery as they played against Nantes. Di Maria abruptly left the match after the information was relayed to him of the hostage situation in Paris. The player’s family were present at home when there was a robbery attempt in the French Capital.

Di Maria was replaced by Leandro Paredes around the hour mark after having to leave the clash against Nantes. Marquinho’s parents were also robbed around the same time, leading to the PSG captain to also leave. Police have opened an investigation, with the club offering full support to the two players’ families.
