208 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 200 recoveries

Malta has registered 208 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,565 swab tests, while 200 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Wednesday 27th January 2021, 23,512 vaccine doses were administered.

To date, Malta has registered 17,400 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 14,452 have recovered, 261 died and 2,687 are still active.

Halsey is pregnant with her first child!

American singer Halsey is pregnant with her first child! She dropped the news yesterday on Instagram with a series of photos showing off her baby bump.

Halsey tagged screenwriter Alev Aydin on her belly in the Instagram post, possibly revealing that he is the father of her child.

Aydin commented on the post, saying: “Heart so full, I love you, sweetness.”

Halsey wrote back saying,  “I love you!!!!! And I love this mini human already!”.

China started using anal swabs to test ‘high-risk’ people for COVID-19

China is now using anal swabs to test people who are considered to be at ‘high risk’ of contracting COVID-19.

Chinese officials took anal swabs from people who reside in neighbourhoods with confirmed COVID-19 cases, in Beijing. This is according to state broadcaster CCTV. People in designated quarantine facilities have also undergone tests.

This method is said to increase the detection rate of infected people, said a senior doctor from Beijing’s Youan hospital.

Woman arrested for robbing money from a pet shop in Marsa

A 44-year-old woman from San Pawl il-Baħar was arrested on the 25th of January for robbing money from a pet shop in Marsa.

The pet shop owner reported to the police on the 25th that an amount of money was missing from his cash register. The police managed to identify the woman by means of CCTV cameras and she was arrested later that day.

The woman will be taken to court today at around 1 PM.
