67 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 323 recoveries

Malta has registered 201 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,946 swab tests, while 345 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Sunday 7th March 2021, 97.864 vaccine doses were administered of which 32,862 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 24,599 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 21,087 have recovered, 334 died and 3,178 are still active.

40% of new COVID-19 cases due to UK variant

Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne has revealed earlier today in an interview on TVAM that the UK COVID-19 variant is active in Malta. He added that 40% of new cases are due to this variant as it caused the virus to spread faster.

Fearne pointed out the importance of discipline and caution due to this variant being much faster at spreading. The effects of the new measures put in place should be seen in the coming days, claimed Fearne. He gave an average of 5 days to a week. Finally, Fearne pointed out that the number of doses of vaccine given will should reach 100,000. The total as of 8 March amounted to 97, 864.

Mater Dei reduces parents’ visiting hours to one hour per day

Mater Dei took to FaceBook to announce that due to COVID-19 restrictions and attempting to mitigate the spread to unvaccinated mothers and newborns, especially given the presence of the new UK variant. Apart from wanting to avoid staff from obstetrics wards ending up in quarantine, the hospital claimed that it has no option but to reduce visiting times following delivery to one hour per day.

The hospital also announced that no changes had been made in regards to the presence of fathers during labour and delivery. The public outcry from parents changed the initial ban which parents were being given from the ward after birth.

Duke and Duchess of Sussex prince Harry and Meghan, sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey last night to discuss their departure from royalty. Prince Harry accredited his ability to move away from his duties to Meghan, which would have been immensely difficulty otherwise. He then extends his compassion to his father and brother, who cannot leave that lifestyle.

Prince Harry claimed he felt trapped and did not see a way out until he met Meghan. He also expresses his sadness that Prince Charles stopped taking calls as the couple worked on leaving royalty, along with finding it financially difficulty due to being completely cut off. The Prince still has a good relationship with his grandmother, the Queen.
