Malta has registered 20 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 1,628 swab tests, while 57 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.
As of Saturday 24th March 2021, 307,636 vaccine doses were administered of which 98,677 were 2nd doses.
To date, Malta has registered 30,149 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 29,261 have recovered, 412 died and 476 are still active.

Norwegian climber Erland Ness hoping to reach Mount Everest’s summit confirmed on Thursday that he had tested positive for COVID-19. This was a huge blow to Nepal’s mountaineering season on the world’s highest mountain. Already having forced last year’s season to be cancelled, Nepal had eased quarantine rules in an effort to attract more climbers. Ness was evacuated from the mountain by helicopter and taken to a hospital in the Nepali capital Kathmandu.
Ness told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that he hopes none of the otter’s get infected with the virus high up in the mountains. ‘It is impossible to evacuate people with a helicopter when they’re above 8,000 metres.’ With breathing made difficult to the high altitudes, any outbreak of disease presents major health risks.

After driving and crashing his friend’s Toyota Supra into a trailer, a youth was ordered by the former to pay a fine of €62,000. The court judge concluded that the friend suffered a trauma after seeing the heavily damaged vehicle, prompting the €62,000 fine.
Testimony presented reveals that the two were with other friends in Hal Far, where the accident occurred. The youth felt betrayed by his friends’ actions and allegedly suffered trauma after witnessing the damage done to his dream car. A psychiatrist concluded that the victim suffered a 20% permanent disability after witnessing the damage.

A funeral at the University of Malta was held this morning to celebrate the life and mourn the passing of 19-year-old Julian Spiteri. A law student at the University, Julian sadly passed away last Sunday after crashing a car into a tree along Triq Tal-Infetti near Saqqajja Hill.
The funeral was broadcasted live from Chaplaincy Uni, with the gathering itself being a limited but intimate and sombre attendance due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Tributes poured in for Julian, with Balluta Barracudas FC also joining an initiative to erect a plaque in his name.
