The Malta Ranger Unit shared a video on social media showing illegal air gun targets placed on protected trees in a public space.

Whilst patrolling Dwejra, Rangers noticed several air gun targets attached to pine trees in the area.

A closer inspection revealed a large amount of metal pellets lodged deep into the pines, creating wounds with sap coming out.

The rangers highlighted how air guns fall under Schedule II of the Arms Act 2005 and can only be sold to persons in possession of a Target Shooter License B or. Collector License A.

They cannot be used in public spaces unless it is an event organised by an official club with permits.

‘Attaching anything to, and in addition harming, protected trees is strictly illegal as per Trees and Woodlands regulations S.L. 549.123.

Any information about the case is being urged to be communicated with the rangers.
