The Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, together with the Department for Public Works, has announced the first edition of Festa Ħaddiem – Minn Id il-Public Works, taking place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May.
This family-friendly event will celebrate the skills and craftsmanship of the Public Works Department’s employees.
Omar Farrugia explained that the festival is being organised in the spirit of Worker’s Day and will honour the bravery and hard work of the Maltese and Gozitan people.
He highlighted that the Public Works Department is the oldest within the public sector and invited families to celebrate the department’s contributions to communities across Malta.
The event will be hosted in the Concert Zone, part of the country’s largest open green space, developed and managed by the Public Works Department.
Activities will include demonstrations of traditional trades such as woodworking, masonry, and tile laying, along with interactive exhibits showcasing the history of Public Works. Visitors can also experience a virtual reality tour of the Triton Fountain.
Jason Micallef, Head of the Ta’ Qali National Park Unit, praised the initiative, emphasising its role in promoting open spaces and family activities. Entertainment, food stalls, zumba sessions, and first aid demonstrations will complete the festivities.
