175 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 216 recoveries

67 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 323 recoveries

Malta has registered 175 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,871 swab tests, while 216 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Sunday 28th February 2021, 79,624 vaccine doses were administered of which 28,048 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 22,657 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 19,663 have recovered, 316 died and 2,678 are still active.

G.F. Abela Junior College student wins global art prize

Following the submission of more than 600 entries contending for the Global Students Prize, the Sovereign Art Foundation has found its winner in G.F. Abela Junior College student Podorvana with her piece ‘The Little Joys’.

Paraskovia secured first place from the 140 finalists, landing an £800 prize for herself and £2000 for the G.F. Abela Junior College in a feat which highlights the level of artistic talent in Malta and Gozo.

Stephen Griffiths, Managing Director of Sovereign Trust (Malta) Limited highlighted how such an initiative emphases the importance of art in schools and how creativity must be encourage across the board.

James Clifford Micallef killer with 3 year sentence

James Clifford Micallef was killed after 32-year old Anthony Taliana hit the cyclist with his car 12 years ago. Micallef had been training for LifeCycle marathon and was a father of four children. He was also reportedly the secretary of the Malta Cycling Federation and a member of Qormi Kia Cycling Club.

Judge Edwina Grima stated that there was no reason to change the sentence and thus confirmed the 3 year jail time Taliana will be facing. The accident happened at around 5:15 am in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, with Micallef’s body being found further down the road than the car’s bumper with the registration number. Taliana continued to drive after the incident.

Videos surface online of illegal rave party taking place in Pembroke

Videos have been making the rounds on social media of an underground rave taking place in Pembroke over the weekend.

The clips show a considerably large amount of people dancing to loud music in a dark, enclosed area without wearing masks of adhering to any form of COVID-19 protocol.

Videos also show people smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol while the daily COVID-19 cases reports continue to rise and hit record highs.
