New legal notice gives LESA parking permit enforcement responsibility

New legal notice gives LESA parking permit enforcement responsibility
Feb 8 2023 Share

Minister of Home Affairs, Byron Camilleri, has announced that LESA will soon be in charge of enforcing parking permits issued by local councils.

The Minister revealed the information in response to a parliamentary question from PN MP Mark Anthony Sammut and stated that a new legal notice would be released soon making this the case.

The move follows the inability to enforce the parking permits being used to reserve spaces for cranes or lifters, which became useless after LESA was unable to fine those violating this law.

Citizens are paying for the permits without receiving the benefits they are entitled to as cars continue to park in the spaces, with no agency taking responsibility for enforcement.

Radio host Valentina Rossi and activist Steve Zammit Lupi both spoke out on the issue, which has affected citizens across Malta and Gozo.

During a ceremony on the court, James thanked everyone who has been a part of his journey over the past 20 years, including the NBA, Adam Silver, and the late David Stern. Abdul-Jabbar handed over the ball to James, which was celebrated by the crowd, including music stars, athletes, and actors.

“To be able to be in the presence of a legend and great as Kareem, it means so much to me,” said James.

James has been in the NBA for 20 years, playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Lakers, winning four championships and appearing in 10 NBA Finals.

“I thought it had every chance of being broken. It just had to have someone that the offence focused on continually,” said Abdul-Jabbar, who retired in 1989.

James holds several records in the NBA, including being the youngest player to reach every significant points milestone and being in the top-10 all-time lists for assists, steals, defensive rebounds, and field goals made.
