174 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 93 recoveries

Malta has registered 174 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,842 swab tests, while 93 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

From yesterday’s cases; 13 cases were family members of previously known cases, 11 cases were contact of positive work colleagues, 3 cases were imported and 2 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases.

To date, Malta has registered 6,764 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 4,765 have recovered, 70 died and 1,929 are still active.

Prime Minister inaugurates boutique hotel in Valletta

Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Robert Abela officially inaugurated a boutique hotel in Valletta, which is scheduled to welcome its first guests on Friday.

The Iniala Harbour House and Residencies is the fruit of a €20 million investment and is a 23-room hotel with a spectacular view of Valletta’s Grand Harbour. The accommodation features luxurious facilities mixing modern design with Maltese identity.

The establishment will also be employing 40 people to cater to clients and guests.

70th COVID-19 death registered

Following the report of four COVID-19 related deaths yesterday, the Health Authorities have revealed that a 75-year-old man died of COVID-19 late Wednesday night. 

The man was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on the 3rd of November and tested positive for COVID-19 the following day. It is also reported that the man also suffered from chronic conditions. 

This is the 70th death related to COVID-19.

Cyrus Engerer fills Dalli’s vacated seat in European Parliament

Following a casual election to fill Miriam Dalli’s vacated seat in the European Parliament, Cyrus Enger was voted on to become Malta’s sixth representative in the EP. 

Engerer is set to fill in for Dalli after she resigned from European Parliament to occupy a Maltese Parliamentary seat. 

Engerer contested against Felix Busuttil Galea, Josef Caruana, Mary Gauci, James Grech, Robert Micallef and Lorna Vassallo.
