17 neglected dogs saved from cruel conditions by MSPCA and AAA

Animal organisations MSPCA and AAA have saved a number of neglected dogs who were reportedly kept in cruel conditions as a result of what has been described as ‘animal hoarding’.

It was revealed that around 17 dogs were saved, with the owner from which they were removed reportedly still in possession of a number of dogs as the organisations await the necessary steps from the authorities.

In a Facebook entry posted on Saturday, MSPCA shared their thoughts on such cruel attitudes, stating that animals can also suffer from social withdrawal, depression, anxiety and loneliness as a result of society’s upheaval, in this case: animal hoarding.

The organisation called such hoarding ‘animal cruelty in the purest form’, sharing that such a situation is “a product of cruelty due to lack of procedures, enforcement and not to mention lack of action due to our ‘close knit society’.”

MSPCA have reported that their animal rights team is pushing for answers as they await action from the authorities.

Over 20,000 individuals over 65 have received their COVID-19 booster, Fearne reports

Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne reported that over 20,000 individuals aged 65 and over have received their second COVID-19 booster dose.

Last April, Superintendent for Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci had explained that certain individuals will eventually require further vaccination as their immune system would require more than just the first and second COVID-19 vaccine doses.

This includes elderly individuals, immunocompromised individuals, cancer patients and anyone who may have received a heart transplant, treatment or anything of the sort.

With such a revelation in mind, Fearne urged the public to take their vaccine doses, asking “did you receive yours?”

Open Ghadira road before 15th June says PN MP as traffic jams continue

Anyone venturing towards Armier or Ghadira Bay may have ended up spending up to two hours in a massive traffic congestion as the scorching summer sun beat down on the vehicle.

This prompted PN MP Ivan Castillo to speak out and urge the authorities to open up the Ghadira road as soon as possible to reduce the long traffic jams caused by road works.

Castillo said that if the road is not opened up by the 15th of June, the traffic jams will be extending into the rest of the week as many make their way to the beaches in the area for summer.

Last week, the Malta Tourism Authority, along with the Building and Construction Authority and the Planning Authority, revealed that no construction work will be allowed in tourist zones between the 15th of June and 30th September.

Also about a week ago, Castillo had raised alarms about the problem which seems to have become a weekly occurrence on the weekend. Now, he has also revealed that several people have even outright cancelled bookings, even in Gozo, due to the jams.

‘We are still in a position to change it; fix the chaos Ghadira is in, and get road opened ASAP. I appeal to the Government, let’s be responsible and finalise what we can and continue works in a more appropriate time’ he said.
