158 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 74 recoveries

Malta has registered 158 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,602 swab tests, while 74 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

From yesterday’s cases; 30 cases were family members of previously known cases, 8 cases were contacts of positive work colleagues, 16 cases were direct contacts with other positive cases, 10 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases.

To date, Malta has registered 13,388 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 11,460 have recovered, 226 died and 1,702 are still active.

President, George Vella is to be vaccinated later on today.

The president has said that he completely believes in the vaccine being as the companies who are issuing the vaccines are very serious companies.

The president also said that a lot of research and testing went into the making of the vaccine and that most of what can be found on the internet regarding the negative aspect of the vaccine are fake theories.

Maltese public will be offered vaccine by start of May

Health Minister Chris Fearne has said that the public can expect to receive appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations by the end of April or the beginning of May.

Fearne also stated that this would mean that our island would receive herd immunity by the end of summer.

Tanya Roberts is still in critical condition and she remains in the ICU.
