The Malta Police Force has officially launched the Neighbourhood Watch Programme in Marsa.

‘The programme is coordinated by the Malta Police Marsa Community Policing Team in key streets and is planned to expand to other areas of Marsa. Neighbourhood Watch has already proven successful in other localities such as Mellieha, Wardija, Iklin, Madliena and Marsaxlokk.’

‘This initiative aims to foster a strong sense of community and cooperation between the residents and the police. We encourage the residents of these selected streets to actively participate and provide extra assistance to our officers as part of this project.’

‘Together, we can make a significant difference in ensuring the safety and security of our neighbourhood.

In order to streamline communication, the Neighbourhood Watch program assigns a dedicated coordinator to each area, ensuring smooth interaction among members through a dedicate WhatsApp chat and regular monthly meetings.’

‘These channels serve as effective platforms for the community to report any concerns or incidents, while also allowing the neighbourhood police officer to offer feedback and updates in response.’

Up To 150 Million Containers Recycled Through BCRS

Up To 150 Million Containers Recycled Through BCRS
Aug 24 2023 Share

Around 150 million beverage containers have been recycled ever since the Beverage Container Refund Scheme was introduced to Malta nine months ago.

This would mean that 50 million containers were recycled in a month and a half, given that by the end of June 2023, it was announced that 100 million containers were recycled.

During the month of August, 900,000 containers were being collected on average each day.

Malta is the first Southern European country to introduce the scheme, which sees users depositing and receiving a return for their recycling of plastic, glass and cans.

Meanwhile, CCTV cameras overlooking the machines have led to LESA issuing hundreds of littering fines.

A statement revealed that these figures are something that ‘all those who have the island’s environment at heart should celebrate because there has been a marked decrease of beverage containers strewn on our streets or dumped at sea.’

Do you make use of the BCRS scheme?

This comes after Inter Miami revealed its plans to bump up security ahead of Messi’s arrival given the massive influx of attention that the US soccer scene has attracted.

Owner Jorge Mas, who led the charge to get Messi to the States, said that security will be ‘obviously enhanced.’ Messi certainly lived up to the hype he generated, scoring nine goals in his first 6 games, pushing Inter Miami into the Leagues Cup final.
