Designer’s Custom Toenail Slippers Go Viral

Designer's Custom Toenail Slippers Go Viral
May 23 2024 Share

Designer Canyaon, renowned for his innovative upcycling projects, has taken footwear design to a new level with his latest creation: the “Toes Slippers.”

Known for transforming 20 recycled caps into sneakers and adding plastic “boulders” to MSCHF’s Super Normal silhouette, Canyaon’s work often pushes the boundaries of conventional design.

The “Toes Slippers” are a quirky alteration of the YEEZY Slide, modified to resemble an enormous big toe. Featuring a full-colour “toenail” over the slide’s front opening, these slippers boast a bulky, cartoonish appearance that teeters on the edge of the grotesque. This design is reminiscent of Gaetano Pesce’s Il Piede and Imran Potato’s Caveman Slippers, offering a playful yet bizarre twist on typical footwear.

Despite the viral attention, the “Toes Slippers” remain a design concept with no current plans for production or release. For those seeking less extravagant options, the market offers various summertime mules, such as Nike’s Clogposite and the backless Beatnik by NEEDLES and Reebok.

Canyaon’s latest creation underscores his reputation for bold and unconventional designs, capturing the imagination of fashion enthusiasts with his whimsical approach to upcycled footwear.

The first teaser, shared on social media, depicts “live” footage of a group vandalising Mount Rushmore, draping banners over the sculptures with the words “The Truth Lies.” The second teaser shows the same group putting up posters with the same message. Both teasers are part of a larger promotional website, thetruthlies.com, which features a TV with six different “channels.” Currently, only two channels are active, with the others likely to showcase additional teaser content.

Alongside these official reveals, a blurred image, believed to be an obscured version of the game’s cover art, has been circulating online. Despite the blur, the image hints at a connection to the original Call of Duty: Black Ops title.

IGN reports that Microsoft is expected to announce the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 directly into the Game Pass service during its June Xbox showcase. Additionally, the entire Call of Duty back catalog will reportedly be available on Game Pass before the new game drops. Although unconfirmed by Microsoft, this aligns with comments from Xbox president Sarah Bond about all Microsoft-developed games being available on Game Pass from launch day.

More details are anticipated to be revealed on thetruthlies.com and during the Xbox showcase on June 9.
