126 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 139 recoveries

Malta has registered 126 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,686 swab tests, while 139 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

20 cases were family members of previously known cases, 11 cases were contact of positive work colleagues 6 cases were from direct contact with other positive cases, 7 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases and 1 case was imported.

To date, Malta has registered 10,101 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 7,887 have recovered, 146 died and 2,086 are still active.

Joseph Muscat called to appear before Caruana Galizia board

Following the summoning of Konrad Mizzi and his refusal to answer certain questions before the Caruana Galizia inquiry board, former PM Joseph Muscat has also been called to appear later this week.

Muscat has yet to confirm his attendance as the board secretary confirms that court bailiffs had delivered the summoning documents to Muscat’s father.

Man sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend

Jelle Rijpma was sentenced to 30 years in prison. This happened after he admitted to the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Shannon Mak.

The murder took place in 2018. Jelle Rijpma confessed to the murder last Wednesday.

Apart from this, Rijpma was also fined €116.47 for being in possession of a knife.

A group of children’s doctors along with the Maltese Paediatric Association are selling an A3 hero-themed calendar to collect donations for the Richmond Kids Foundation and Arka Foundation, Gozo.

Since the coronavirus pandemic did not permit them to put up the usual yearly concert which they used as a charity event, they came up with this calendar instead.
