Malta has registered 111 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,951 swab tests, while 53 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

Today’s cases are still being investigated. From yesterday’s cases; 14 cases were family members of previously known cases, 10 cases were contact of positive work colleagues, 13 cases were direct contacts with other positive cases, 1 case was from social gatherings with other positive cases and 2 cases were imported.

To date, Malta has registered 5,137 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 3.384 have recovered, 53 died and 1,704 are still active.

Spain exceeds 1,000,000 cases

Spain is the first European country to exceed 1 million COVID-19 cases cases with a death toll of 34,366. 

Despite the imposed lockdown and preventive measures taken during the year, the infection rate maintains an approximate 10,000 cases per day.

74-year-old woman dies in house fire in Rabat

A 74-year-old woman died earlier this morning after her house in Rabat took fire.

Police have confirmed that the woman was found dead on sight at around 6.45am.

Investigations are currently underway as magistrate Victor Axiaq leads the inquiry.

The end of Fast and Furious?

Director of the Fast and Furious movies, Justin Lin has stated that the 10th and 11th films will be his last. 

However, this does not necessarily mean that the brand’s cinematic universe is over, with ‘Hobbs and Show’ launching a very successful spin-off back in 2019 and cinematic universes seemingly being the trend in modern blockbuster cinema. 

The ninth instalment of the movie franchise was pushed backed due to COVID-19 and is scheduled for May 2021.
