11 COVID-19 cases registered with 0 recoveries

Malta has registered 11 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,481 swab tests, while 0 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Monday 5th July 2021, 689,924 vaccine doses were administered of which 364,277 were 1st doses. 340,423 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 30,675 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 30,165 have recovered, 420 died and 90 are still active.

Maltese football fans welcomed back to the stadium

The Malta Football Association announced on Facebook that as of Tuesday, a small number of fans will be welcomed back to local stadia after 15 months. Fans will be making their return for the first UECL tie of the season. The association, whilst welcoming the fans back, appealed for everyone to cooperate in following the rules as live football makes its long awaited return.

As for health precautions, only persons in possession of a match ticket and a vaccination certificate are allowed to enter stadia. An identification document will also be requested prior to entry at the stadium with persons attending requested to provide their contact details for contact-tracing purposes. No ticket sales at the door of the matches will take place. Face-masks are to be worn at all times and social distancing adhered to.

13 elephants travelling to Africa from UK park in first re-wilding project

The world’s first and largest re-wilding project will see a herd of elephants bred in captivity travelling to Africa. Should the project prove successful, it will be the first time an entire elephant herd has been released into its natural habitat. The herd includes 13 elephants, of which 3 are calves, and they will be travelling a massive 7000km from the UK to Kenya.

Organised by British wildlife conversation charity The Aspinall Foundation, the project does not have a lack of challenges. Since these elephants were bred in captivity, conversationists claim there are a lot of unknowns as to how the animals will adapt to the new environment and the various threats that come with it. The animals all weigh a whopping 25 tonnes together, making the travel immensely difficult. However, if successful, the project will show that endangered species can be successfully returned to natural environments.

The ‘life-hack’ debunking Khaby Lame has shot up to TikTok’s second most followed user globally. Overtaking Addison Rae, Lame went viral for entertaining videos without speaking a single word. The Italian TikToker has racked a whopping 84.2 million followers (as of writing this article), etching closer to the current first place TikToker Charli D’Amelio.
