102 new cases of COVID-19 & 103 recoveries in the past 24 hours

Malta has registered 102 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,942 swab tests, while 103 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

Today’s cases are still being investigated. From yesterday’s cases; 32 cases were family members of previously known cases, 5 cases were contact of positive work colleagues, 2 cases were from direct contacts with positive cases and 2 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases.

To date, Malta has registered 7,141 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 5,103 have recovered, 76 died and 1,962 are still active.

Queen Elizabeth wears a face mask in public for the first time

94-year-old Queen Elizabeth has worn a face mask in public for the first time last Wednesday, as she marked the centenary of the burial to the grave of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey with a private pilgrimage.

She had not worn a mask on previous occasions, which had attracted criticism from the press and the general public.

Woman grievously injures man

Early this morning in an apartment in St Paul’s Bay, a man and a 24-year old Nigerian woman were involved in a fight after an argument between the two escalated, leaving the man hospitalised and suffering from grievous injuries.

The police said that they were informed about the case at around 3.15am and that investigations are ongoing.

Obama congratulates Biden on his win

Yesterday democrat Joe Biden became the 46th president of the United states, denying Donald Trump a 2nd term – and former president Barack Obama was quick to congratulate his former vice president on his achievement.

Biden served two terms as vice president to President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017, forming what is renowned as a political bromance between the two.Obama had a highly visible role during Biden’s campaign, with one of his endorsement videos for Biden generating 26 million views and raised $2.5 million.

Obama also congratulated Kamala Harris for bursting through another barrier and becoming the first female, first black and first south asian vice president of the United States.
