100% humidity & warm temperatures due to substantial rainfall

Malta has experienced a peculiar stretch of weather conditions over the past few days, with the month of October being particularly wet due to high humidity levels, which levels reached 100 per cent over the past week.

Seven of eight weather stations registered a 100 per cent humidity level on Friday morning, with the high humidity levels being cause by moderate to strong-blowing Southern winds.

The Maltese Islands’ air is saturated with water, which comes as a result of the substantial amount of rainfall during October. While the ground remains saturated with rain, evaporated water is released into the air and causes humidity levels to increase. The 100 per cent humidity level is common for Malta due to the islands being surrounded by water.

Forecasts expect temperatures to reach 26°C highs on Friday and 27°C highs on Saturday.

The Magical Illuminated Trail returns with a WALK THRU experience at Buskett’s Verdala Palace

Christmas is right around the corner and while some of us are busy breaking out the baubles and getting the festive lights ready, the team over at The Magical Illuminated Trail are preparing their biggest-ever walk-thru Christmas experience at the Verdala Palace in Buskett between December 3 and January 9.

After last year’s success at the first Malta Illuminated Trail Drive Thru Edition at Gianpula Fields due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will debut as originally intended. The majestic walk through Verdala Palace will feature jaw-dropping structures such as the four-meter Dragon, the Train Station, the Artic World, Candy Land and so many more gorgeous sights.

The festive walk will guide you around one of Malta’s National Gems and will feature hundreds of brand new larger than life lantern illuminated sculptures, mesmerising light installations, projection and much more. Once the sun begins to set, the gardens will transform into a Christmas wonderland unlike any other and welcome a controlled number of ticketed guests to discover, enjoy and bask in the festive spirit of this magical festival of light in a safe and restricted manner.

The walk should take around 45 and 70 minutes and, as per current regulations, is currently restricted to vaccinated attendees only like all other events in Malta. When booking tickets online, guests are also asked to confirm their possession of a valid COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate. Temperatures will be checked upon entrance and an approved vaccine certificate needs to be presented together with an Identification Document. Individuals who are 12 years and over need to have a valid COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate. Children under 12 years of age can attend without a PCR Test if accompanied by a vaccinated parent/guardian.

So as from December 3 to January 9, prepare to embark on a unique and memorable Christmas experience and get ready for The Magical Illuminated Trail.

Sport your beard: Police unions issue directives on facial hair, nail polish & hair dye

Dispute directives have been issued which are calling for police officers to keep their facial hair, not wear their cap and keep their hair dye or nail polish. This comes in the midst of a trade dispute between Malta’s police officers and the police corps.

This has been registered against the Commissioner of Police after unions were not given a reply to their dispute against the instructions given on officers’ decor. These instructions included a call for uniformed and non-uniformed members to shave their beards against disciplinary actions.

The Police Officers Union stated that “The Police Act, does not provide for any derogation, addition or subtraction by the Commissioner of Police. The Commissioner, like everyone must abide with the legislation, enacted by the President of Malta, after it passed the legislative process…”

These vending machines will give 10c back for every used plastic bottle

A new beverage scheme, which is set to launch in April of 2022, will give users up to 10c in exchange for every used plastic bottle. Signed earlier today, the deal for the Beverage Container Refund Scheme seeks to raise awareness and practicality to recycling in Malta and to bridge the gap of the production cycle of single-use beverage bottles or cans.

The BCRS signed an agreement with Envipco today, covering the supply, installation and servicing of Reverse Vending Machines, which will play an important role in this eco-friendly initiative. The reverse vending machines will be installed across different localities.

A small deposit of €0.10 is added to the purchase price of the beverage where the market cycle commences at the beverage producer or importing stage. The refund will be returned to the consumer upon the return of the beverage container to the vending machine. With plans to achieve high recycling targets and aiming for an 85% return of all beverage containers by 2026, this initiative could change the Maltese perception of eco-friendly initiatives.
